Jumpstart Your Drawings!
Hand Drawing Using Today's Technology
Seminar in Design Services and Research Track

AIA 2003 National Convention
May 8th, 2:30 - 4:00 pm
San Diego Convention Center
San Diego, California
Program Summary:
Digital technology and computer imaging have dominated the academic and professional design communities. This focus on high technology has all but eliminated traditional hand drawing as a design visualization tool. Many experienced architects have forgotten--and most architectural students have never developed--the ability to sketch and communicate design with quickly generated hand drawings. It’s time to reverse the trend and jumpstart your ability to draw again! This carefully timed and highly productive seminar proves that you can have the best of both worlds. You can put technology to work for you by using wireframe perspectives, photographic templates and copier images to make your sketches faster and more effective. You will discover ways to quickly revive your drawing skills and have fun with the process of visualizing design. With JUMPSTART YOUR DRAWINGS!, you’ll learn valuable techniques that save money and time spent in the visualization process, and ultimately gain more valuable time to spend during your design process.

In this highly interactive “hands-on” drawing program, you’ll:
• Learn to communicate design through quickly generated hand drawings that incorporate new advances in technology.
• Learn the step-by-step approach using cameras, copiers and computers as tools to assist in the hand drawing process.
• Learn effective linework techniques, coloring options and how to scan and reproduce your drawings.
• Learn about effective drawing formats, sizes and materials that save you time and money.
